Create a Map

I created a lesson for my first grade classroom that addresses several areas of our curriculum. The first grade curriculum requires students to compose a nonfiction report. We do this through our science unit where kids student vertebrates. At the end of our lesson the children choose on vertebrate (bird, fish, mammal) to research. They write a short report and create a diorama. Each child presents their information in front of the class. Creating the map also allows me to teach the concept of continent, state, county, and city. My thinking is that we could use the Smartboard to create a class vertebrate map where we would mark the location of each students animal. The landmark allows you to click on it. From this point we would have a couple of options. When you click on it,the student could add a picture and one fact. Another thought I had was to create a podcast and embed it to the mark and have the student read their report so when you click on a landmark you could here their report online. Would this work? I am going to try it this summer to see how it goes. :) I hope my map makes sense!
